Map Service Handoffs: Four Lanes, RACI Owners and Recovery Plans
Build a service blueprint from reviewed roles and policy, distinguish total work from the longest dependency path, and rehearse failure recovery before handing off an editable SOP and presentation.

Use Service Blueprint Studio to map my reviewed service policy into four lanes, real responsible/accountable roles and explicit recovery. Separate total planned work from the longest dependency path. Start with the visual editor, rebuild exported source into a new folder and verify RACI, timeline and SOP values. Record local rehearsal honestly and keep unperformed checks open. Do not certify an operation or present estimates as measured service performance.
What does Service Blueprint Studio turn into a delivery?
Service Blueprint Studio v1.1.0 turns a reviewed service brief into customer, frontstage, backstage and support lanes, a RACI CSV, handoff timing, an SOP, a local rehearsal and native editable PowerPoint. Optional local rendering creates a 32-second result film. The package costs USD 4.99 individually; no paid API or service-management account is required.
Start with python3 scripts/start.py for a local visual editor using only the Python standard library. Keep the terminal open; Ctrl+C stops it. The editor binds to 127.0.0.1. PPTX and film generation still require the pinned packages in requirements.txt. Editing a source bundle is not a completed render.
Assign real owners and observable recovery conditions
Read references/input-and-review.md. Supply 2–12 roles and 3–12 stages in dependency order, with one entry stage. Every stage needs four lane descriptions, a responsible owner, one accountable role, planned minutes, acceptance, failure and escalation text. Dependencies must reference earlier stages. Consulted and informed roles cannot duplicate responsible/accountable roles or each other.
Use a concrete task, such as welcoming a workshop participant whose booking is missing. Name who checks the record, what counts as a resolved handoff and who reviews an exception. Do not invent staffing promises or treat an authored acceptance checkbox as evidence of real service quality.
Generate and reconcile the five-stage Morrow example
From the installed package, install the pinned dependencies in a virtual environment, then run into a new folder. Open service-review/index.html and workbench.html. The fictional example has four roles and five stages; it is not a measured customer case. On Windows use .venv\Scripts\python.exe.
| Source change | Total work minutes | Longest dependency path |
|---|---|---|
| Original: preparation 10 min, orientation 8 min | 55 planned minutes | 47 planned minutes |
| Change preparation from 10 to 12 minutes | 57 planned minutes | 49 planned minutes |
python3 -m venv .venv
.venv/bin/python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
.venv/bin/python scripts/build-blueprint.py --input examples/project.json --output ./service-reviewReview parallel work instead of adding every stage together
Preparation and orientation both follow arrival and can run in parallel. The next stage starts after the later dependency ends: 5 + max(10, 8) + 25 + 7 = 47 minutes. Summing all work gives 55 minutes. Neither quantity is observed elapsed service time, and neither models staffing capacity, queues or travel time automatically.
Change preparation to 12 minutes in Edit inputs, inspect Result preview, then export the current source bundle. Unzip it beside the skill and rebuild with project.json into a fresh directory. Check timeline.json for 57 total work minutes and a 49-minute longest path; reconcile raci.csv, handoffs.csv and service-sop.md with the changed source.
Rehearse the exception and retain an honest checklist
In the review room, open Acceptance and recovery for a stage and compare the action with its source policy. Try the two authored practice questions, including a missing booking and an unavailable material. Missing answers should be rejected; incorrect answers should show the supplied rationale. Checking every box is only a local rehearsal, not operational certification or a training pass recorded for a real employee.
Draft checklists and answers are local to the tab; download before closing. Verify the responsible and accountable IDs against the role list. Try an invalid forward dependency in a separate input: the builder must reject it without writing a partial delivery.
Rebuild the actual presentation and optional film after edits
To create the local result film, add --render --formats landscape --edge 720 --fps 24 to the build command and use a new output folder. Review the complete 32-second MP4, captions, chapter stills and crop before using it. The film presents source-derived results; it is not a live screen recording. Font coverage and overflow checks may stop a render.
PowerPoint text, cards and notes are native editable shapes. Deck wording edits passed through --edits affect presentation prose, not the underlying service facts. Existing MP4/PPTX links keep the previous generated files until rebuild. Deliver the exact source, domain files, notes, input evidence and SHA-256 manifest; verify policy changes again before operational use.
